ACTING HEAD OF THE DIVISION
The Division of Chemistry of Oxidizing Processes was established in 1982 on the basis of the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of Combustible Minerals of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
Since 1986, the division has continued its scientific activities as part of the created Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Combustible Fossils of the Institute of Physical Chemistry named after L. V. Pisarzhevsky Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, and since 2004 – as a member of the Department of Physical and Chemistry of Fossile Fuels of the Institute of Physical-Organic Chemistry and Coal Chemistry named after L. M. Lytvynenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
For many years, the main areas of research work of the division were:
- study of processes of liquid-phase oxidation of organic compounds;
- study of radical polymerization in heterogeneous systems;
- study of reactivity and structure of polymer interphase layers;
- creation of new composite materials and research of their properties.
The scientists of the division have developed the scientific foundations of promising technological processes of oxidative amination of olefins and liquid-phase oxidation of cyclohexane in the presence of catalysts for the selective production of practically important products. New catalytic systems are proposed for the homogeneous-catalytic radical selective and effective oxidation of organic substrates at relatively lower temperatures and pressures to obtain industrially valuable products with lower material and energy costs.
Interesting and promising are the results of studies of the action of binary hybrid systems of the type of salt of variable valence metals – N-hydroxyimide under the conditions of radical-chain oxidation by molecular oxygen in the liquid phase and the establishment of a significant influence of complexation between the system components on the magnitude of the synergistic effect in it.
In recent years, the subject of research carried out in the devision has expanded significantly, and today the results obtained are interesting, in particular, in the field of sol-gel technologies, nanochemistry and nanotechnologies. Thus, scientists of the Devision of Chemistry of Oxidizing Processes have developed a method of synthesizing a poly-electrolyte hydrogel sulfon-containing membrane by radical photoinitiated copolymerization of monomers in thin films under the action of UV radiation; developed kinetically controlled methods of synthesis of polymetallic nanoparticles based on d-elements and noble metals for their use in catalytic nanosystems, as fillers in conductive polymer compositions, etc.
The division took an active part in the implementation of applied works, research under targeted complex programs of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, implementation of grants from international organizations, etc.
Today, the division continues to research the kinetics and mechanisms of catalytic processes of oxidation of organic substrates, in particular the research of new binary homogeneous-heterogeneous catalytic systems for the oxidation of H(HO)C-containing compounds obtained from natural raw materials under mild conditions using cheap “green” oxidizers – O2 and H2O2. At the same time, new promising directions of research, which were initiated in recent years, are developing – this is the development of kinetically controlled methods for the synthesis of multicomponent nanosystems, in particular, polymetallic nanoparticles and organic-inorganic nanocomposites with catalytic and proton-conducting properties.
The division takes an active part in the training of scientific personnel. During the existence of the division, its scientists have defended 6 doctoral theses and 15 candidate’s theses, the work of employees has been recognized with many awards and prizes of various levels.
